Policy and Representation

Policy and Representation

First and foremost we are here to represent our members. We deliver tangible outcomes to small businesses within the hospitality industry and influence the policy decisions and regulations that impact the operating environment.

We advocate and proactively lobby on issues that generate more favourable conditions for owners and operators of hospitality businesses.  Key areas of focus for policy reform and input include Immigration, Superannuation, Education and Training, Food Safety, Healthy Eating, Workplace Relations and Liquor Licensing.

Throughout the year and specific to each state, Restaurant & Catering organise a series of policy updates that enable members and prospective members to hear firsthand what is happening or about to happen in the legal and political environment.

An overview of previous and current campaigns and initiatives include:

The introduction of an independent Restaurant Industry Award with more favourable conditions for restaurants.

Exempting restaurants and cafes from weekend/public holiday surcharging laws.

The reduction of the PPCA APRA fees for restaurant owners.

  • Ensuring the industry is represented on the migration agenda with key hospitality jobs being recognised to address skill shortages.
  • Supporting domestic tourism initiatives that help create jobs and business growth
  • Working with government to deliver nationally recognised training that garner and nurture the professionalism of the industry
  • Provide input and consultation to deliver a simpler tax system
  • Proactively co-ordinate round table events that offer one on one opportunities with respective government leaders

Giving you a voice and acting on what is important to you and your business

“We have been in this industry for more than 30 years and have seen plenty of changes and developments. I have seen the Association evolve into a dynamic organisation during this period. What has always been a constant is that they are our collective voice and representative body for our industry. To have a voice to government you need to be a part of your Association".
